Among the many beauties and cultural resources of the city, a special mention goes to the ancient Pontificia Fonderia Marinelli, famous in the whole world from 1000 years for its handcrafted bells. Pietrabbondante is another ancient village which dates back to  the Sannio era. The small molisan center once had an important role for the ancient italian community. The Bovianum Vetus in Calcatello is proof of its ancient splendour with its  two temples, and a theatre with anatomic-shaped stone seats. The theatre was used as a meeting point.

Inside the Bovianum Vetus, many theatrical shows take place during the summer.

The Beaches and the Trabocchi Coast

In about 40 minues, going through the state highway Trignina, it is possible to reach the beaches of Vasto and San Salvo, the two main coastal locations of the area which offer a wide range of choice to sea lovers.

It is possible to lie down on the large, golden beaches or to venture along the rocky cliffs on which rise the characteristic Trabocchi, ancient stilt constructed fishing platforms: nowadays, some of the Trabocchi host typical seafood restaurants.
